Young Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov has signed a recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon. The 21-year-old won First Prize and the Grand Prix at the 14th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2011, and has since made performance debuts with the Vienna Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic and the Mariinsky Orchestra. His first recording on the Yellow Label will be his live Carnegie Hall recital debut, which took place on February 5, 2013, and featured works by Scriabin and Liszt alongside Chopin’s 24 Preludes. 

‘The highest musical ideals I strove for from childhood were embodied by Deutsche Grammophon and its association with such names as Vladimir Horowitz and Martha Argerich,’ said Trifonov. ‘To be part of this tradition is for musicians a stage for posterity, and for me the greatest possible honour.’

Daniil Trifonov’s first album for DG will be released later this year. He released an album of Chopin solo piano works on Decca in 2011, followed by a recording of Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra, released on the Mariinsky label in 2012.
